Using the core values of rugby of teamwork, respect, fun, discipline and sportsmanship, HITZ strives to bring back young people who are not in education, training or employment towards education, training, apprenticeship or employment.

The HITZ Champion Award is one of four awards celebrated each year and recognizes special individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty to support HITZ participants.

This year’s shortlist includes Jack, a former Sailor who volunteers in the program and also undertakes extreme physical challenges to raise funds that will facilitate new classrooms and a learning environment to support those who benefit from HITZ. .

CVC’s chief executive, Jane Howard, was among those who helped create the shortlist and said the work done by all applicants deserves recognition.

She said: “These people provide unique skills on a voluntary basis, and that’s essential for any young person’s learning.

“Anything that gives them the skills to stand out in a crowd, whether it’s social or technical skills, helps create a good overall foundation in life.

“These volunteers and supporters are giving young people the kind of advantage they wouldn’t otherwise have.

“Giving young people the tools but also the conviction that they can do something great and give them the opportunity to progress is impressive.

“They all help signage for jobs, use their network and connections, and trust these young people, which most people wouldn’t do.”

The awards ceremony will take place on November 17th when Jack finds out if he has won.
